Can I be seen by your Optician as an NHS patient?

We are fully private. In 2008 we took the decision to offer only private eye care as we could no longer continue to provide the standard of equipment and quality of service we wished within the restrictions of an NHS funded eye examination.

Please talk to a member of the team about our fees and the differences in the services we can offer. 

Do I have a higher risk of getting an eye infection if I wear contact lenses regularly?

As long as you take the necessary precautions when putting in and removing your contact lenses there is little to no risk involved. If you are using monthly contact lenses, make sure you thoroughly clean them with the solution provided and wear them forno more than 12 hours at a time.

Why do I need more regular eye test if I'm diabetic?

You have to be careful if you are diabetic as there are some eye conditions that can develop as part of your diabetes. As a precaution we recommend any of our patients with diabetes to arrange an eye examination about once a year.

Does my child need to see an Optometrist if they are getting their eyes tested at school?

Yes your child still needs an eye test. Usually school eye test are simple screening checks. At Viewpoint we have technology and equipment that is exclusive to us in York. Children’s eyes should always be checked by an Optometrist as any underlying issue that goes unnoticed could be potentially harmful in the future.

Can I have my ears cleared through the NHS?

Although some GP practices provide ear clearance, it will be provided by a private company at a cost.

Viewpoint provides a first class, wax clearance service.

How expensive are private hearing aids?

Hearing aids can cost anywhere from £1695 to £2995 for a pair. Aftercare is provided as part of a plan. Please contact us for details.

Is there anything I should do before I have my ears cleared?

If you are a new patient to the service, it may be worth using olive oil for a few days prior to the appointment.

Olive oil usually makes the whole process easier and more comfortable.

If you have an existing outer or middle ear condition, please consult a Pharmacist before taking any action.
