An independent and fully private practice

Viewpoint opened on Church Street, York in July 1985, initially specialising purely in contact lens fitting and care. It wasn’t long before our unique service was recognised and we became the first optician in the UK to be named as “Contact Lens Practice of the Year”.

Demand for our personal, high quality care was such that the practice quickly grew and we soon added two further consulting rooms.

In 2007, after over 20 years of concentrating exclusively on contact lenses, we responded to repeated customer requests and introduced a small but exclusive range of high quality spectacles. Our ethos for glasses and sunglasses is exactly the same as for contact lenses; we make no compromises and supply only the best products available.

The following year, it became apparent that we could no longer continue to provide the standard of equipment and quality of service we wished within the restrictions of an NHS funded eye examination.

In 2008 we became the first optician in the UK to resign our NHS contract and offer only private eye care.

In 2019 we incorprated an Audiology clinic to Viewpoint and this has very quickly become a extremely important part of the business.  As with our optical care, our hearing care is second to none and we aspire to deliver the very best service across the board.

As an independent, fully private practice, we are free to concentrate entirely on your needs. An eye examination at Viewpoint is a unique experience, and many continue to return to York for their eye care long after leaving the area.
